Yell Ouch! to let them know theyve hurt you and they will relax their jaws, at which point you can resume praising them.

bear in mind that it is slightly different to deal with puppy mouthing and to teach bite inhibition.

This advice does not work at all.

yes, she did stop biting, i tried everything… i dont know what was it, she bites me now playing but never strong, and never when im not playing, she is very sweet now. i believe some dogs work this technique. my pitbull didnt! lol. i would say you try to bring your puppy with other dogs, small and big and let them play! i think that relaxes them.
    good luck!

Training methods are like religions. They all tend to think they have the right way, the best way, and that other ways are wrong. I think it’s best to learn from different perspectives and use what works for you personally. Make your own blend. Use what seems natural, ethical, and effective for YOUR dog. Be open-minded. Don’t buy into the training method wars raging across youtube right now.

Your comment was 10 months ago. How is your dog doing now?

Perhaps there is a close-captioned version of this video?

Think about it….which makes more sense if you were a dog? I would take the rules from the dog world, as the trainer of this video does. It isn’t too complicated for dogs to understand to learn bite inhibition at all, as this is how dogs-relatives such as wolves live peacefully together in packs…by following these social rules which to them, are not confusing at all.

maybe you can get one of those whiltles.. it could get the puppies attention fast 🙂

how does one teach a client..who is deaf..this strategy? I have a client, who is deaf, and his puppy is biting not only his hands..but his mothers hands..both are deaf. Thank you

[sigh] Here’s the problem— I JUST learned from a different video that you’re supposed to teach them that puppy/dog teeth are NEVER to touch human skin at all because more detailed rules would be too confusing to the dog? Right now, I’M confused.
