8 times a day is only while they’re in training. A housetrained dog only needs to go out 3-4 times a day.

Training your dog to use the PetLawn is much like teaching it any kind of trick. It takes repetition and positive reinforcement for the dog to learn. It is true that puppies learn more quickly than older dogs, but the popular adage that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” certainly doesn’t hold up here. Older dogs just require a bit more repetition and patience to learn.

I can tell you my parents dog T (7 months) is already done when we humans notice she should be outdoors right now. It is too late to walk her then, every time she pees indoors reinforces peeing indoors. Therefore she must be walked frequently until she realises walking is also her toilet and not just playtime.

  12. Belgiter says:

Good if you have a fenced yard. I don’t have a yard at all. My collie was housetrained when she was 5 months. It didn’t happen for free and suddenly but it was a quite smooth process. I used papers and frequent walking. When she was about 3 months she knew she has to pee outdoors and a bit later she was dry over the nights. At the age of 5 months she was physically able to be clean. Puppies don’t have preconceptions about their new home and it should be simple to housetrain them.

You could take this further by introducing a dog door which we are going to do with our new JRT. Its gonna be tough training, but he will eventually get it and let himself out when we are not around. Our puppy is 11 weeks old and can hold all night, im sure he is a super puppy!! He gets rid before bed at least twice and is dry & Clean in the morning. Then goes out to let go first thing. He is ace 🙂

It’s not stupid, it’s smart: if you take a dog out every 3 hours or so, you prevent it from using your house as a toilet. You’re suggesting to wait until the accident actually happens, but then there would still be pee and poo in the house: the dog has already started peeing/pooing, so you’d still have to clean it up and remove the strong smell that encourages the dog to use the same place as a toilet over and over again.

My brother rubbed my puppy’s nose in his mess in my room and now my puppy goes there everyday and poops.

  17. zorakbane says:

    so where’s the tips?

  18. captpoop22 says:

WOW, this woman is a dumb ass !!! I’ll give the best tip…. You watch your dog…… when you see him Pee or poop in the house, You say : HEY ! take him, bring him out side…. then when he finishes to pee/poop your give him a treat !!!! ……. damn… Wtf is that thing… 8 times a days… ROFLLL…… people are dumb sometimes !!

  19. Belgiter says:

Healthy, adult dogs can hold back their pees and poos some time. The idea is to teach the dog its toilet is outdoors, not in the house. That can be problematic with that adult dog that has learned to do inside and there are all those old stinks in the house. You can’t just tell a dog his toilet is here and basta. The dog is conditioned to pee/poo outdoors if he is outdoors every time when he has that urge. Then he learns to hold back. Dogs usually don’t want to dirt their home either.

  20. MelodyPythonVeria says:

How are lazy owners making this excuse? People who think like this are the ones who WILL take the dog out 8 times a day. That doesn’t sound lazy to me. Dogs are easier to train as puppies, just like humans are easier to teach when they are younger because both are more impressionable. But if the dog has already started going in the house the dog will be just as likely to go in the house than out. So you need to lessen the chances of them going in the house by bringing them out.

  21. rockero1590 says:

no just lazy ass owners is an excuse blame the dog, you can train a dog at any age, so dogs pee and poop for basic needs but also for mark territory, so the dog would pee and poop in the same place when you walk him. is easy

  22. MelodyPythonVeria says:

    No problem!

  23. Gazmqu333 says:

Oh yea that makes sense well thanks for explaining things

  24. MelodyPythonVeria says:

Yes, it can be very difficult to bring a dog out that much. But if your dog has already started thinking the hosue is a toilet you need to bring them out as much as possible because they will pee or poo in the house without even thinking twice. If you are training a puppy it’s much easier because puppies are more easily influenced, while older dogs who have already developed behaviours are hader.

  25. rockero1590 says:

is not rocket sciencies, is just a routine dont have to be 8 fucking times at day? if u are a housewives yeah sure but not everybody hv that time for the dog…VS so fucking annoying
