Hey zanab so I always use a really long rope to begin recall training. It
help to allow the dog to “roam” whilst still having control. Practice
recall without distractions and then with. But the long line will help to
bring them back If they don’t listen. :)

Would you put a choke leed on a kid? No! Then why put it in your dog? I had
a staffy for 14 years and had a leed for her but never put it on her as i
had 100% control without choking her! Choke leeds are for people that dont
    care about animals!!!!!

    I understand you’re probably thinking you’re helping people.. I don’t think
your training is at a level you should be teaching others.. After 5 minutes
I had to turn your video off because it was bothering me. 1. You failed to
mention that slip collars must go in a straight line over the neck not
under.. That was way more important than talking about different types of
slip collars. 2. Dogs are taught to heel on your left hand side.. Just like
horses are taught to lead mainly on the right hand side3. Very important
this one… When correcting (pulling on lead) when dog is pulling etc DO
NOT pull up!!!!!! Pull back.. So u may need to bend down a little.. But
always pull back so after the correction the slip collar can release after
the correction. 4. To teach a dog not to jump in a car dog needs to learn
the wait command.. Or sit. Stay.. Using hand signals .. And yessss command
and hand gesture to welcome the dog inside the car.. I taught my dog to the
highest level of obedience and agility agility.. Not bagging you out (too
much) but please leave the dog training videos too the professionals.. U
don’t want to confuse people and dogs with what u r teaching

Not to be rude; although your techniques are appropriate, you dog is
showing signs of discomfort. Throughout the entire video they were lip
licking, and even in the introduction they licked the bottom of your chin.
These are calming signs, and you seem to be missing them. The dog is asking
you to calm down as you are making them nervous. Instead of talking low and
quietly, instead of just pulling them into place and expecting them to know
that is good, praise with a higher tone whenever they are beside you or
when they do anything you are asking you to do. There was no positive
energy coming from your dog, no erect ears, no loosely wagging tail, no
open mouth. It seems like you’ve just trained them and barely praised. Try
to be more positive so your dog is having fun with it too.

Susan just try being nice and firm perhaps scruffing the dog till it calms
down. That’s what it’s mum would have done. If not seek some hands on
professional advice. Without actually seeing the behaviour I can really
advice all that much in a case like that. 🙁 real sorry. But just try being
a little firmer. It’s a strange behaviour so young really?

And if you don’t believe me you can check out my vid in my you tube site my
dad made of our dogs over the years.. All our dogs have been very
successful in the obedience and agility rings.. There’s also courses one
does to teach others dog obedience. Whilst I can teach my own dog I would
struggle showing others what to do using words that are easy to
understand… Please encourage people to go to dog obedience classes. if
watch this they could really mess up a good dog

  7. Leo Florence says:

So just to clarify, instead of using vocal cues (so the dog knows what it’s
supposed to do) you go straight ahead with corrections? How is that good
training? Imagine I punched you in the head without warning, and if you
asked why I said: “because you didn’t read my mind!”. Also, how come nobody
notices your dog never wags his tail, never looks up to you, doesn’t
communicate with you or shows any kind of joy for life? Because this dog
has given up, he know whatever he does he’ll get a yank or a ‘touch’ or
whatever so he’s not even bothering trying anymore. This is probably one of
the worst basic training video’s I’ve seen. I have a rescue staffie and
trained her with positive reinforcement and getting her to make her own
choices. Guess what, she’s happy and does exactly what I tell her to but
she’s not completely shut down like your dog is. People need to wake up and
look at videos like this one more closely. Does the dog really look happy?
Study some dog body language first and then come back and watch this.
    Really sad..

A lot of people in the comments say that their having trouble with their
dogs snapping destroying things and barking. It is important to realize
that the first part of training any dog is exercise. If you are having any
sort of problem try REGULAR exercise. I bring my staffy to the dog park
several times a week and he never does anything destructive or aggressive.
When you exercise them not only are they too tired to chew up your house
but you also form a bond with the dog as leader.

    Jimmy,
Hi. Great video. I am planning on getting a staffy bull from a reputable
breeder in the states, within a year or two. Because you are out of the
states, do you have any books that you have written or dvds that I could
purchase that teach newbies such as myself the proper way to train a SBT?
If not, do you have any recommendations as to what books I could read or
dvds I could purchase to learn the best way to train my future staffy?
Also if you know of any reputable breeders in the states, please let me
know. Right now, I am looking at the breeder referral list off of the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America.

    Thank you!

    Dave

too easy, do it with an untrained dog

  13. alana d trussler says:

You corrected him a bit late as he clearly was already in the state of mind
as his raised ears wagging tale and tenseness was already present. You need
to work on correcting him sooner.

  14. funkyrimpler says:

this is old fashioned dog whisperer techniques. things have moved on a lot,
try positive reinforcement training. not ‘energy’ and prodding.

You should not pull so much on the lead as much as i love your vidoes my
staffies are both on harnesses as one nearly throttled itself. They both
PULL VERY hard on the lead! I disagree with choking the dog to get it to do
with what you want! Just because you want it to keep it to exact
heel.Notice your dog does not wag its tail.PLEASE tone the pulling
down! However i love your vids and the disipline was great!PS i am a vet
