Instead of using tools to -correct- a dog, teach them what you WANT them to do in the first place. If you do that effectively, then the discussion of punishi…

Hanna – I find for most dogs, 5 minutes of attention drill is too much. 5
one minute session a day are better. And don’t forget, you need to vary the
time also. Don’t just march from 1-2-3-4-5 seconds. Once you’ve done that
in the beginning, vary that too. Also vary the environment – sitting,
standing, walking. Vary delivery. One from the left hand, once from your
mouth, once from the right hand. Frequency should be varied once all the
above is 99.9%. But if you look at the video, it’s not frequency that was
varied, it was the length of looking (more or less).
Wrong, slip-collar/choke chain has it’s place. Besides, this dog was
trained. Try that with an untrained dog and see what happens.
Damn it!! I thought it went on the dog… Whoops
I have a question-
What schedule/rate of reinforcement do you rely on to get her so attentive
and willing? And how do you go about weaning her off the treats to just
praise? I’m going to teach my dog to at least walk on a loose leash, and
I’m thinking of going from a really high rate of reinforcement (15+ treats
per minute, 5 minutes sessions), and then gradually fading the rate down,
and then the value of the treats will follow (boiled chicken to regular
kibble, no store bought crap). I would really love your input on the
subject. And, thank you for posting such a wonderful video!
Lovely!
Seriously, I could hug you right now. This is the best training video I’ve
ever seen on youtube. Thank you! And, wow, does she heel wonderfully. Good
job!
Brill!
I absolutely. Love dis u r awesome! !!
Brilliant!
Choke chains are called “training collars” by some. So besides the ethics
involved, if training with a choke chain were successful, it would, after
training, no linger be required on the dog. The harness shown is also
considered by some to be a training tool. But one can see, she is not
dependent upon the harness to walk properly. And it’s not pain or
fear-of-pain inducing. In other words, instead of using the choke chain as
punishment, train your dog how she should walk instead of punishing.
Awesome! One of the best videos on that subject! Also have another great
use for choke chains: You use a choke chain with those long links(best ones
are those stainless steel ones!)and a lock. I use them to lock up my suit
cases and garbage bins!:)
Thanks Debi – always like such roses, even if they are a
-little-exaggerated. 😉
This is WONDERFUL! Bravo! More! More!
Just brilliant. Thank you soooo much.
I love it! haha
Priceless humour! I miss ya!
Finally I understood how to use the Choke chain with my son now! Thank you
very much!
LOL.
Buzz is very funny! 🙂
Lol!!!!! I knew that was coming!!! What an incentive for people to work to
make the dog staying at their side a rewarding place to be.
Kids don’t try this at home 😉 I see you got a good training from your dog
so you can perfectly walk on loose leash. Not every human can do this. I’m
glad to see the film about the shock collar … 😀
I love you! 😀
You are really a GENIUS! Thanks a lot!
Awww what a curious and good flattie you have! ;D
Nice one Buzz 😀 !
